For our anniversary in 2009, Brian and I got a really fun new camera. He was going to use it to take pictures of nebulas on his telescope and I was going to get my paintings photographed professionally without the professional cost.
We decided to go to the Huntington Gardens to try out the new toy, and I made this sketchbook from a combination of photos, collage and watercolor. I made paper from flowers in our garden in Escondido. The piecing together of materials was very inspiring and I enjoyed learning some new techniques and expanded on some of the new ideas in paintings.
The Chinese garden was new to me on this trip and the wonderful water reflecting pool was beautiful.
The Japanese garden and bonsai area are a favorite and I love the way that whole area feels so peaceful and quiet.
My favorite area in the Huntington is the succulent and agave area. All the shapes and colors are so appealing to me. I especially enjoyed the play of light and bright white spaces the sidewalks created.
